- Fashion forward: Jerry Folly-Kossi, left, and Khan Kanga co-founded Swell Attitude, which is hosting a happy hour this week emphasizing the timeless chic of the pocket square
For Khan Kanga, fashion and fun go together.
The San Francisco-based creative director and co-founder of Swell Attitude, a custom tailoring service for men, hosts themed monthly events he calls “stylish happy hours.”
The next one, dedicated to pocket squares, is Thursday at Circa on Chestnut Street in The City. To guarantee free entry, the “casual chic with a square” dress code will be enforced.
Swell Attitude, which has been in business for two years, also offers style consulting.
“I want to call it fashion therapy,” says Kanga, adding that he and Swell Attitude co-founder Jerry Folly-Kossi want to make customers feel confident wearing their designs.
“We’re not just here to measure someone’s inseams,” Kanga says. “We give each customer a questionnaire to find out what kind of person they are in order to make a suit that best matches their criteria.”
The questions range from asking about favorite drinks to what kind of car they want to be seen exiting.
Knowing consumers are looking for deals, Swell Attitudes’ hand-tailored pieces — for example, sharp, timeless James Bond-type suits — are what Kanga calls “off-the-rack” affordable. Many of the clothes are inspired by 1960s looks.
In addition to showcasing custom garments, Thursday’s party features appearances by jazz vocalist Shelley MacKay and DJ Bling Crosby.
