Third-round action in the California Community College Athletic Association playoffs at the City College of San Francisco produced mixed results for the host Wednesday.

The women’s basketball team (26-5) at CCSF advanced to the state’s elite eight with a hard-fought victory over Siskiyous College 63-55.

Coast Conference North Most Valuable Player Janis Peterson continues to be the scoring leader for the Rams, leading the way with 28 points Wednesday. Peterson also had 26 points in the second round against San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday.

Rachelle Smith and Olivia Mayorga-Overtone have been a steady force for the Rams, who are looking to return to the final four for the third season in a row.

The women’s team will be welcoming Fresno City College (27-5) to Brad Duggan Court on Saturday at 7 p.m. A victory would push the Rams into the state final four next weekend.

On the flip side, the CCSF men (27-3) will be conjuring up offseason workout plans earlier than expected after being stunned by Cabrillo College. The defending state champions dropped a gut-wrenching a 76-70 decision in overtime to the Seahawks.

The Rams had won 23 straight games, with 22 of the wins coming by double digits.

With the likes of Coast Conference MVP Delon Wright, point guard Joe Slocum and power forward Stuart Wasonga coming back for the Rams, the men’s basketball team should be in position to make a championship push next season.
