Dirty Money Watch: Rep. Bennie Thompson

| March 08, 2011
WHO: Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss.

WHAT: Thompson received $1,000 from General Motors' Political Action Committee.

WHY IT'S DIRTY: General Motors was the recipient of a $60 billion taxpayer bailout last year that has not been paid back, so the automaker has no right to curry congressional favor at Americans' expense.

WILL THOMPSON GIVE IT BACK? "The congressman does not plan to refund the contribution," Thompson's press secretary Lanier Avant said.

DONATED THIS OR OTHER DIRTY MONEY WATCH-HIGHLIGHTED CONTRIBUTIONS TO CHARITY: No congressman has returned a GM donation yet.

YOUR TURN: You can reach Thompson's Washington office at 202-225-5876.

Don't know who is your congressman? Go to house.gov and look in the upper left-hand corner.

Don't know who are your state's two senators? Go to senate.gov and look in the upper right-hand corner.
