Does Palin get the last laugh?

| August 24, 2010

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R, trails by about 2,000 votes after last night’s Alaskan primary elections.

We may not know who won in Alaska for a week or two — there are about 8,000 absentee ballots still uncounted, and a few more are expected to trickle in. But if the result holds, it marks the end of two Alaskan dynasties — the Murkowskis and the Stevenses.

Both Stevenses were vanquished in whole or in part by unwanted attention from the FBI (Ben Stevens quit the state Senate after a raid on his office, and his late father lost the 2008 election after being convicted.) Both Murkowskis lost fights against Sarah Palin — she trounced former Gov. Frank Murkowski, R, in the 2006 primary, and Joe Miller, if he wins, will have done so with Palin’s endorsement.
