- Man crushed by elevator at Montgomery Street Station
A man was crushed to death in an elevator shaft at Montgomery Station Sunday night, police dead.
Someone riding the elevator from the Muni level up to the concourse level said he heard a crunching sound and then a yelp, BART police Lt. John Conneely said.
The elevator stopped, and police were notified at about 9:35 p.m.
Fire personnel found the dead man in the shaft, Conneely said.
Investigators are trying to find out how the man got there and how long he had been in the shaft. Foul play is not suspected.
"It appears he may have been sleeping atop the elevator and was crushed," Conneely said.
