From reality stars to royalty, relive a year’s worth of the glittering nuptials of the rich and famous ... whether or not the marriage lasted
Prince William and Kate Middleton
Hands-down the most lavish and talked-about wedding of the year (sorry, Kim!), the union of Britain’s future king and commoner Kate — now restyled Catherine, duchess of Cambridge — was televised around the world. No pressure or anything! The grand April affair also introduced the world to a certain bootylicious Windsor in-law. And though we know the rumors are idle, we can’t help but hold out hope that this time next year we’ll be recapping the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Princess Pippa!
Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton
For their May 14 wedding, the country stars mixed Nashville-style glamour with down-home touches — at the reception, they eschewed the standard chicken-or-beef choice and feasted on venison the bride harvested herself. That’s what we call keeping it real!
LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian
There’s no denying this relationship has its fair share of detractors — and no wonder, considering the actor and the country singer were married to other people when it began. But it certainly seems to be true love, and since their April wedding at a private home in Southern California, LeAnn appears to relish her role as “bonus mom” to Eddie’s two sons. Now if only she would stop tweeting to gloat about all that.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
It was the ultimate fairytale wedding ... even if the bride and groom didn’t come close to living happily ever after. But while she called it quits on the marriage just 72 days after her August nuptials — which cost $10 million, according to TMZ’s estimate — at least the heavily bedazzled Kim got to spend a perfect day with her one true love: the cameras.
Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey
After getting engaged in November 2010, the former “Newlyweds” star and his longtime girlfriend (despite a brief separation) finally tied the knot in July with an intimate “island chic” Virgin Islands ceremony attended by 35 loved ones. We’re happy for them and all, but come on, they had already been acting like an old married couple since forever. Next!
Brooke Burke and David Charvet
Another couple who took their sweet time to wed, the “Dancing With the Stars” champ and the former “Baywatch” star were together since 2005 and engaged since 2006 — and are raising four kids together (two of whom are Brooke’s from a previous marriage). But in August, they finally made it official with a romantic wedding on a sailboat off St. Barts. Who says Hollywood stars don’t believe in traditional family values?
Kate Moss and Jamie Hince
Of course we all remember that magical day when a classic British beauty named Kate, clad in an elegant white gown, said her “I do” to ... a rock star? Yes, although even a supermodel couldn’t compete with the attention paid to the royal wedding, her July nuptials with Kills rocker Jamie — featuring 15 bridesmaids, including the bride’s 8-year-old daughter, Lila Grace — was lovely and romantic nonetheless. And we’re guessing the after-party was a wee bit wilder.
Shannon Tweed and Gene Simmons
There’s fear of commitment ... and then there’s fear of commitment. The rocker and his lover of 28 years had raised two children, now 22 and 19 — and even weathered a relationship reality show! — before they finally walked down the aisle in October and he got to KISS the bride. (See what we did there?) Their wedding song, appropriately enough, was “At Last.”
