Muni board to hear system changes

| September 14, 2008

Changes to improve Muni’s transit system will be heard Tuesday before the agency’s board of directors.

In 2006, Muni initiated the beginning of its Transit Effectiveness Project, an 18-month-long study aimed at making the system more efficient. The results from the study, released earlier this year, called for increased services on the most-used routes and elimination of some bus lines with low passenger levels, as a way of becoming more cost-effective.

Many community groups complained that the proposed changes eliminated essential neighborhood bus lines.
