- Dexter Oliver.
The woman doused with gasoline and set on fire by her angry boyfriend in the Bayview district Sunday afternoon remains in critical condition but is expected to survive, police said Monday.
Police are still on the hunt for her boyfriend, Dexter Oliver, 22, who reportedly attacked 25-year-old mother of three Starr Lamare over a dispute about laundry.
According to KTVU (Ch. 2), Oliver has an extensive criminal history that includes a previous domestic violence charge out of San Mateo County.
Now Oliver is wanted on attempted murder and arson charges, police said.
On Sunday, police were called to the area of Hollister Avenue and Jennings Street about noon and found Lamare suffering from severe burns. She was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, but has improved.
Precious Craig, the victim’s sister, told media outlets that the incident was related to an argument at a laundromat.
“They argue and stuff all the time, but I didn’t think it was going to go this far,” she said. “My sister wanted to leave her clothes at the laundromat, but he didn’t want to leave them there. … He got mad and threw the clothes down.”
Witnesses said Oliver ran home from the laundromat, grabbed a bottle of gasoline and returned to douse Lamare before setting her on fire.
“I saw him pour gasoline in a bottle and he left,” Craig said. “I didn’t know he was going to burn her.”
Lamare will need extensive reconstructive surgery over the next few months, according to a report on KTVU.com.
Witnesses at the scene said Oliver also fled with Lamare’s purse. As of Monday afternoon, he was still on the loose.
He is described by police as a black man, 5-foot-10 and 155 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red-and-white hoodie, dark pajama pants with a multicolored shamrock print and gray-and-red Nike tennis shoes. Oliver also has the shape of a fish shaved on one side of his head and a lightning bolt on the other.
Anyone with information on Oliver’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Police Department at (415) 553-1651.
