- George Lucas talks about the death of Hollywood
Both Steven Spielberg and George Lucas looked into their cinematic crystal balls this week and made some interesting predictions for the movie biz, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Speaking at an event at USC, Spielberg warned that the film industry was going to “implode” after more and more green-lighted big-budget movies begin to flop at the box office in favor of more “fringy” films.
Lucas concurred, adding that he sees the industry moving more toward a Broadway model, where less shows are produced each year but they run for longer and with higher ticket prices. Lucas pointed to cable TV as a “much more adventurous” outlet for creativity these days.
Take the hint, Hollywood.
