San Francisco police arrested a suspected cop impersonator in connection with the brutal beating of a 45-year-old man in the Mid-Market district Wednesday.
The suspect told the victim he was a cop, and the victim asked to see his badge and identification at Eighth and Market streets around 4:25 p.m., police said.
The suspect refused to prove he was a cop, and the victim walked away. But then the suspect grabbed the victim, threw him to the ground and kicked him numerous times to the point where he lost consciousness, police said.
Police later arrested the suspect, whose identity has yet to be released.
The victim suffered bruises to the abdomen and face, injuries not considered life threatening, police said.
