- Dealing: The Angels’ Jered Weaver continued his dominance of the A’s this season by tossing a four-hitter Monday.
Jered Weaver tossed a four-hit shutout to win his ninth consecutive start and lift the visiting Los Angeles Angels to a 4-0 victory against the A’s on Monday.
Weaver (15-1) struck out nine and did not walk a batter to become the first 15-game winner in the majors with his second shutout of the season and sixth career. It was his 11th career complete game.
Erick Aybar came off the disabled list to collect three hits with an RBI and Torii Hunter had a two-run single for the Angels, who leapfrogged Oakland into second place in the AL West and took over the second wild-card slot. Rookie Mike Trout had two hits and an RBI and stole three bases to raise his AL-leading batting average to .348 for Los Angeles, which has won Weaver’s last 12 starts and is 17-3 with him on the mound this year.
Jarrod Parker (7-6) allowed four runs and nine hits in 6²⁄³ innings for the A’s, who tumbled to their third straight defeat.
The Angels gave Weaver all the support he needed when Aybar and Trout delivered RBI singles in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. Hunter’s two-run single in the seventh gave him 10 RBIs in eight games.
In three starts against Oakland this season, Weaver has allowed only one run in 23²⁄³ innings.
